I recently saw this post floating around Facebook:
Keep this going!! Heavenly Father, walk through my home and take away all my worries and any illnesses and please watch over and heal my family and friends in Jesus name, Amen. This prayer is so powerful. Stop what you’re doing & set this to your status. Watch what He will do.
It reminded me of all the chain letters you get in your inbox. Remember these? If you love Jesus, you’ll forward this email to fourteen people within the next five minutes. I used to send those emails, because I thought that would score me points with Jesus, though I didn’t really understand who Jesus was. I used it as a way to gain salvation, again, not really understanding what that was.
I still smiled at the status update, though, because it was a step for a potential new believer. Forwarding those emails was a step for me in a way, because I was at least grasping onto something with Jesus’ name in it. I should have stopped then and prayed that God continued to touch their life. I didn’t. I’m still learning, and God is patient with me.
Three hours later, they had another status, using four letter words mixed with some sarcasm. Again, I was reminded of where I used to be and just how far God has carried me.
I would forward those emails and an hour later drop the f-bomb because I didn’t get my way. I would tear up reading a story about God working in someone’s life, wish that could be me, forward it to someone else, then light a cigarette.
Isn’t God’s love amazing? We walk around lost in this world and he never stops pursuing us, no matter what we do. It may be the most popular Bible verse recorded, but read the truth in it:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
God so loves those who don’t yet know Him. God so loves those who cuss like a sailor. God so loves those who hold a cigarette in one hand and a Bible in the other. God so loves those who don’t understand what love is. He loves us enough to keep pursuing us, no matter what our sins.
Feeling blessed that He never gave up on me.
Can you feel Him pursuing you?
