This is my 500th blog post. Woot! Woot! To celebrate, I’m giving something away. See details below.
My first published book is coming right along, but I need your help making some decisions.
Before we get to that I want to share some details with you. The full book title is Dear Dad, Did You Know I Was a Princess? (Tate Publishing)
I’ll share something exciting with you. Here’s the copy you’ll see on the back of the book:
Your father. Did he love you enough? Did you feel safe with him? Do you think of him and long for something more?
Did your relationship with him leave you feeling abandoned, used or unlovable? Has the result of that heartbreak left you with bitterness, low self-esteem, and shame?
Join Sundi Jo as she recounts her journey from a woman with a fortress around her heart to a woman after God’s own heart. Discover with Sundi Jo the heavenly Father who has always loved her, and you. In her story, you will find the truths about yourself from the one Who created you with a good purpose and plan for your life.
Immerse yourself in her words as she recounts her discovery of redemption and restored relationships. Learn how to replace the shame and darkness with the beauty and light of Christ’s love.
In Dear Dad, Did You Know I Was a Princess?, you will find hope in the true story of one who thought there was none. It’s a love story that you will never forget.
I’ve included two mockups for you.
OPTION #1
OPTION #2
Congratulations to Michelle. I randomly selected a winner from the comments to win a complimentary copy of my new manifesto, Liar Liar.
We took everyone’s feedback into consideration and finally decided on #1 as the best cover design. We made a few changes to the fonts, but other than that, it’s staying the same. Thanks for your help.

I picked A, but I think it just reminded me of my childhood. Oh, the innocense!
🙂
Both are great, but I select Option #2 – I think it sticks out more.
Awesome Jon. Thanks for your feedback.
Congratulations on your book coming along. I absolutely love the first one! It pops out and grabs your attention. It also brings good feelings!
Thank you Stacy. I really appreciate your feedback.
I’m so excited about your book! I voted for option #1…..the little girl looks like a sweet innocent little girl … a real princess!
Thank you so much Clara. I’m excited too!
I like the first option better (except the writing is a bit hard to read). The second one looks too dark.
I’m working on a font change Tim. Thank you so much for your feedback.
You’re welcome!
I went with Option 1 – 2 looks too sinister. Maybe I choose A because I would rather remember the innocence instead of the sick perversion in my life.
That’s a good point Laurie. Thank you for your feedback.
They’re both good, but I like the second one because it resonates with longing – the longing of a child to be seen and included by her dad. It makes me feel the distance between them. It’s heartbreakingly powerful.
Thanks. You don’t think it’s too dark?
Option 1 because the back cover says it’s a love story.
Option 2 makes me think it’s a book about child abuse and broken relationships.
My sentiments exactly.
Lacey, thanks for your feedback. This is a touch decision. There is broken relationship and sexual abuse in the book, but I understand what you’re saying about it being a love story.
Love it. I love #2!! Look forward to reading it.
Thank you Tammy. I really appreciate it.
I liked #1 best.
Thank you Eileen for the feedback.
Well, I’m a Dad with a daughter … I like #1 🙂 Blessings on ya!
Thanks Rob. I really appreciate it.
pray and meditate over it , go with what your heart says, you won’t go wrong……………..peace g
Thanks so much.
#1 looks sunny and bright, #2 looks too dark and dangerous. Hugs to you darlin’
Thanks so much Michelle.
Michelle, Congrats! You won a free copy of my new manifesto, Liar Liar. Please email me at info@sundijo.com so I can send you the free copy.
I like Option 1 much better; even if the subject matter is serious this cover would pull me in. I would personally tend to shy away from a nonfiction book with a cover like Option 2; for me it comes across as depressing = off putting.
Thank you Michelle. I’m so grateful for your honest feedback.
Option #2. I may be the only one who feels this, but I think Option #1 looks sad.
That’s the first one I’ve heard. Thanks for your feedback Kay.
Option #1 took my breath away. Makes me get lost wondering . . . Excited for you!
Thank you Alene. I so appreciate the feedback.
I loved the first cover, but the second one just hurt my heart. So I voted for the second one. Congrats!
Thanks Johnnie. My goal isn’t necessarily to heart anyone’s heart, but make them want to pick up the book to understand more about the heartbreak.
It hurt in a good way — if that makes any sense. I was actually surprised by my emotional reaction. Like I said, though, i love both of them. Congrats, again!
Thanks Johnnie. I really appreciate it.
Option one had me intrigued instantly.
Thank you Debbie.
I loved option one. It looks like she’s searching for her way through the tall grass. Your book sounds wonderful. Congratulations and God bless.
Searching her way through the tall grass – LOVE that. Thank you for your feedback.
I like the first one. Number 2 makes me think of the movie poster for the Exorcist.
Yikes! Thanks for the honest feedback.
I like option one but hope you consider a font change for the tagline because it is very hard to read. I like it for Dear Dad though.
Yes. I’m on the change. Thanks so much Karen for your feedback.
I personally like the first one better, but I think that the second one will appeal to males more.
I hadn’t thought of that idea Jackie. Thanks for sharing.
I prefer option 1. Option 2 is dark. it makes me think something bad is about to happen to the girl.
Thank you Peter. There are bad things that did happen in the midst of the love story, but does #1 show you a happier ending that would still make you want to buy the book?
Sundi, yes, I did assume there were some dark things that happened in book, but I hope that isn’t the entire theme (which cover #2 leads me to assume). Cover #1 leads me to assume there is more good than bad or at least that things end good.
I wish you the best in your book launch; may your expectations be exceeded.
Great points Peter. Thanks so much.
I chose Option 2 because it really resonates with me; a daughter seeking love and acceptance from her father and walking on the path of bridging gaps that sometimes go on to haunt children into adulthood.
That’s powerful Navdeep. Thanks. That’s part of what the cover is supposed to portray: “Hey dad, do you see me?”
I picked #2 because it was a girl searching alone in the dark for a father in the distance that she could not find. It looks scarey and sad, but I am familiar with bits and pieces of the story. Can’t wait to read it. I agree with another post that said, “Go with your heart and trust God to lead you in choosing the right cover.” Both covers are great, and I had a hard time choosing.
Thanks for your feedback Rosella. You’re awesome!
I like the first cover, but the second cover’s font…the first cover’s font was tough to read, especially if you just read it at the bookstore without already knowing the title from the blog.
You’re so right Curt. Getting that fixed. Thanks for your feedback.
I vote for the first one as it captures the childlike spirit, playfulness and wonder your readers get to enter the book with. It sets the tone for wonderment, awe, and mystery as to what will they explore in the book and find out about God, their Father? Just a few of my thoughts, I think it beautifully captures the heart of a child which many of us need to re-learn so we can live from that place of simplicity with our Father.
