There are days it seems like I have a thousand things in my mind, one of which I’m lucky to make it from my head onto paper. I’ve been trying to add more stillness to my life and I’ll admit, it’s been a struggle.

Thanks to Abby Lewis, author of Living Still, I’m learning that stillness doesn’t look the same for everyone. When I first started reading her book, I just assumed you had to close your eyes, lie there in silence and try to keep your thoughts from spinning. Lying in silence usually isn’t my thing, so I thought I was doing something wrong. Nope.
Stillness is different for everyone.

The more I get to know people, the more I learn that we all have a past. Though they don’t always look the same, we each have something in our lives that we have allowed to define us.

Up until three years ago, I thought my past was my past and that’s just the way it was. The depths of my sexual abuse couldn’t really be dealt with; they just were what they were. I would always be abandoned by my father and I simply needed to accept it.
Wrong.

I would like to reach out and ask that you pray for Salli. Two years ago she beat breast cancer. What a reason to celebrate. Unfortuantely, that celebration has had to take a back seat.
Sallie has recently been diagnosed with brain tumors. Doctors have given her one month to live.
But our God is a BIG God..
I don’t have a lot of information, but treatments planned.
Please pray for Salli, as well as the two little boys who call her mom.

There is currently a Facebook group where updates are given, pray requests are posted, and where you can simply leave words of encouragement for Salli and her family. Please join the group and let her know you are praying for her.

I remember a life several years ago I thought was great. When tragedy happened, I laughed my way through it, buried it and moved on. I woke up, went to work and back home. Occasionally in between, I’d stop at the convenience store to grab a pack of Pall Mall Menthol Lights.

I did what I wanted when I wanted to and was quick to judge and wouldn’t hesitate to throw the first punch in an argument, whether physically or verbally. I did my fair share of making fun of “Bible Thumpers” all the while continuing on the road of my own selfish ambitions.

How many sports players do you think sit on the sidelines during the game and never get playing time? They settle with the fact they can call themselves “players” regardless if they ever get to play or not.

Every week they dress up in their gear, run out on the field with the rest of the team, then sit next to the Gatorade jug watching, hoping, wishing they could be on the field. Still it doesn’t happen.

When I hear some non believers talk about their struggles with God, one of the reasons for their struggle is suffering. One of the big questions is often,
“Why would God make people to suffer?”

If only they could see past that question. If only they could see the love and comfort God gives us during times of suffering. We don’t suffer because God makes us suffer. Does he allow it? Yes. I don’t have an answer to the why of many sufferings, but there are things I do know:
